This is a picture of Vince wearing his “Lampshade” collar after an operation on his back.
He has had a little lump the size of a pea removed but the vet had to remove a large area of skin around the lump above his tail to ensure that it did not spread.
Vince has now endured the collar for 2 weeks to ensure that he does not pull of any of the stitches out.
Quasia is intrigued and looking after him. Today he is Free and his fur is growing back well now. He has had a lot of attention from our guests!!!
My lovely retired Guide Dog Vince is pictured here in our own bluebell woods with my new Guide Dog Quasia, she is a lot smaller than Vince.
They get on very well apart from the odd argument over the same toy! Our outdoor pool is now open and heated to between 26 to 30 C and we were worried about the possible danger to Quasia should she jump in and be trapped under the solar cover. Like Vince did she quickly learnt that she must not go in the pool but she loves to lie on the side and watch over any swimmers.
We have 28 acres and at the moment the flowers are a picture. We have our Bluebell wood but also there are still primroses out and an area of Wild Orchids, Devon Violets, Campion and Fox Gloves. There are also deer in the woods and here is a picture of a Bullfinch resting outside Laughing Waters (our woodland retreat).
Today the weather is glorious and very warm. We hope to welcome you and that we keep this lovely weather.
This is a big week for Tor Cottage. My beautiful Guide Dog Vince is 10 years old on April 24th and he is now officially retired so we have hung up his harness. But he is staying with me and enjoying Tor Cottage and all the lovely friends he has amongst our guests.
His successor Quasia is smaller and quite adorable. She is 2 years old and takes me out on her harness. They get on very well but sometimes want the same toy.
Quasia is very loving and cute with eyes like brown jewels. She loves to race through our 28 acres and rolls over and over in the woodland with no respect for the Primroses or Bluebells coming through.
The second big event this week is the opening of our outdoor heated swimming and the boiler will be turned on from 1st May. That will be a surprise for Quasia but Vince will quickly teach her that she is not allowed to jump in!
We hope to welcome you soon.
I am pleased to say that the Huffington Post has today published an article ‘Five of the Best Small Hotels in England’ featuring Tor Cottage.
I understand that the Huffington Post is one of the top 50 American internet sites with a monthly audience measured in millions, we will hope to welcome a few to Tor Cottage.
Vince and Quasia are getting on very well. Vince is now a retired gentleman and Quasia a bundle of energetic fun. Vince and Quasia would love to welcome you for Easter, we still have a few vacancies and Easter is early so guests will be offered our popular 3 for 2 night breaks.
My new Guide Dog Quasia is only 2 years old and she is a smaller version of Vince. I call them “Little & Large”. Quasia and Vince get on well together and I think Vince is enjoying his retirement.
Last week we had a very important inspection. We had to be absolutely perfect in every way in order to keep our top ratings. The Inspector was from Visit England (the English Tourist Board). I am happy to say that we have again been awarded 5 Stars Gold Award plus the Breakfast Award. This is in addition to our Rose Award from Visit England received in October 2015. So hopefully all our regular guests and lots of new visitors will continue to enjoy us. Our swimming pool is being prepared for its opening on the 1st May.
